Black History Month Film Showcase

In celebration of Black History Month local Marva Lord (G-Riots) presents: 
Burning an Illusion by Menelik Shabazz. Screening followed by Q&A with the director
Opening with a short film called WAiTiNG, a black comedy about anxiety by HKB FiNN
WAiTiNG is black comedy about anxiety. Paul James is a successful man who works in the arts. He has everything but he also has a small problem with his own 'Anxiety'. Especially when waiting for some news from a new friend. Can he make it through the day without giving up?

Director: Menelik Shabazz
Menelik Shabazz is an Award winning film director, producer, and writer – known as a key pioneer in the development of contemporary black British cinema. Born in St. John, Barbados, he has lived in the UK since the age of five.  Menelik is best known for the documentary The Story of Lovers Rock, and his acclaimed debut feature Burning An Illusion, which won the Grand Prix at the Amien International Film Festival in 1982. The film also won the lead actress, Cassie Macfarlane, the Evening Standard Award for ‘Promising Actress’(1982). Burning An Illusion is the second feature film by a black director produced in the UK. The film has become a cult classic.
