Eddie Prévost, Tom Wheatley, Silvan Schmid + Special Guests PEIRIANT

Conversation opened. 1 unread messag
Doors 7.30pm      Tickets  £6/£4
Eddie Prévost, Tom Wheatley, Silvan Schmid
The trio present a buoyant and elusive jazz, driven by referential investigation and an unorthodox approach to the warp and phase of rhythm. Following a concentrated recording process at All Saints Church of High Laver, ‘The Wandering One’ will be released on Matchless Recordings in May 2024.
Eddie Prévost began his life in music as a jazz drummer. A recurring interest in this form has been maintained, although always with an experimental ethos. Along the way he has maintained his fifty-year plus experimental credentials with AMM and numerous other improvisation projects, including his now twenty-year long weekly workshop. But drumming has generally been backgrounded to his experimental percussion work.
Silvan Schmid is a trumpet player based between Zürich and Maastricht. He plays live and does recordings with people and projects such as Solo, Gamut Kollektiv, M.S.M, Alex Riva, Mraolia, Félicie Bazelaire, ТЕПЛОТА x RIVASCHMID, Lotus Eddé Khouri, TZUSSS, Fabian Saul.
Tom Wheatley is an artist and musician based in London. His work is patterns, rhythms and cycles, at an interface of physical and digital zones. His main collaborations are ТЕПЛОТА with Grundik Kasyansky, Cast-On with Ilana Blumberg, and various lineups & outputs with Daniel Blumberg, often including Billy Steiger, Ute Kanngiesser and Jim White.
P E I R I A N T
Peiriant are a duo of Violin and electric Guitar, who play with melody and tonality to create atmosphere and soundscape. Electronic equipment, samples and found objects also add to their semi-improvised pieces, which are spun from a grounded ideas. Rose and Dan Linn-Pearl draw from their foundation in folk and classical in addition to post-rock, minimalism and sound art to weave experimental music that is anchored in the Welsh landscape. They play with layers of drone and dissonance, contrasting with songs and pure tones to give a rich and sonorous auditory
experience.

Suminagashi Workshop with Sarah Amatt

10am - 3pm    cost £95
The art of suminagashi, the Japanese form of paper marbling, is both compelling and intriguing. It dates back to the Heian period of Japan (794-1185) and is the precursor of all other marbling techniques. The workshop starts at 10 a.m. with coffee and a look at the history of suminagashi and what you need to get started. There will be demonstrations and plenty of opportunities to unleash your creativity and to ask questions! The aim is to help you acquire the necessary skills to create your own designs at home with an understanding of the materials, tools and process. Take home many sheets of paper covered in suminagashi for use in bookbinding and other paper arts. No previous art training is needed, just bring your curiosity!
Maximum of 6 participants.
The cost is £95 to include all materials and tuition plus refreshments.

Live music from SARAH McQUAID

Doors 7.30 Start 8pm    Earlybird Ticket £13 / £14 Standard
“One of the most instantly recognisable voices in current music … Shades of Joni Mitchell in a jam with Karen Carpenter and Lana Del Rey.” —Trust The Doc
Sarah McQuaid’s lush, chocolatey voice combines with her engaging personality, “subtle mastery onstage” (Huffington Post) and “brilliant musicianship” (fRoots) on acoustic and electric guitars, piano and (occasionally) drum to create a truly immersive experience.
Born in Spain, raised in Chicago, holding dual Irish and American citizenship and now settled in rural England, she brings the eclecticism of her background to her “captivating, unorthodox songwriting” (PopMatters) and choice of material, spanning genres and defying categorisation.
All this is abundantly demonstrated by her new live album and video series The St Buryan Sessions — but needs to be savoured in person to be fully appriciated, described as “a wonderful, expressive and intimate live album from a consummate performer.” by Folk Radio UK and made it onto “Best of 2021” lists on three continents.
